ENGRAVING, PRINTING, POLYCHROMY BETWEEN CREATIVITY AND INGENUITY

Abstract

These factors explain why the field of engravers has represented a relatively difficult-to-access club and why engraving, as an artistic genre, has been a discouraging terrain. Nevertheless, there have been many renowned painters who found the resources to overcome the aforementioned rigors, to unlock the secrets of incision art, and to create prints of great artistic value. Among them, Dürer, Rembrandt, and Goya stand out. However, the implementation of color among the traditional means of engraving has remarkably increased the permissiveness of the field.
