  • Veronica Laura Demenescu President of the International Society for Music Education – SIMN, Organizer in Timişoara, After three days of artistic and editorial events included in the, SIMN section program at Timişoara, a first for both the festival of the, Union of Composers and Musicologists in Romania and for the citizens of, Timişoara, the time came to record this in written history., May 24th was the first day in which two concerts were scheduled:, the first to perform was the Choir of the ION VIDU National College of Arts, in Timişoara, led skilfully, strictly and with dedication by Prof. Maria, Gyuris, PhD., followed by two soloist interventions given by Cristian, Kovacs and Georgiana Necşa, accompanied on the piano by Rareș, Păltineanu, who performed two Romanian lieder signed by Valentin, Timaru and Felicia Donceanu., The choir’s exceptional performance, which included works, signed by composers György Ligeti, Einojuhami Rautavaara, Arne Melnäs,, Remus Georgescu, Javier Busto and Felicia Donceanu, ensured the high, professionalism of the SIMN opening concert held in Timişoara, and paved, the way for the joy and excitement of launching the first volume of The, Chronicles, Testimonies and Documents dedicated to Maestro Remus, Georgescu, a prominent figure in Romanian music and an emblem for, Timişoara music, a mentor for several generations of graduates of the, Faculty of Music in Timişoara and for myself, as well as for composers, Gabriel Mălăncioiu and Gabriel Almași., In the preface of the volume edited by Veronica Demenescu and, Ani-Rafaela Carabenciov, musicologist Carmen Stoianov notes: “You will, know a “musical Romania” through some composers, some of them part of, the Maestro’s generation: Cornel Ţăranu, Doru Popovici, Costin Miereanu,, Iancu Dumitrescu, and many other musicians who would discuss in the, culture and “fine arts” columns of dailies or weeklies the major themes, related to the seventh decade of the last century; Remus Georgescu’s, name always stood out. You will rejoice to see that Remus Georgescu was, at that time a certainty.
