CONTEMPORARY MUSIC FOR ORCHESTRA IN THE ROMANIAN MUSICAL CULTURE FROM THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTRY BY ANI-RAFAELA CARABENCIOV

Authors

  • Arthur FUNK The book presents a more or less investigated territory, that of the, concert for orchestra from the Romanian creation of the second half of the, 20th century, decades which were rich under the report of the artistic, creation in general, and of the musical one in special. In this volume, the, author covers the works created for instrumental assemblies in variable, composition (strings, tooters, percussion, double orchestra, etc.) with or, without mandatory instruments. The reader shall be able to find that, many great composers from the Romanian territory leaned towards this, genre, revived and reinvented by the modern composition. Bringing to, attention the name of the great composers: Anatol Vieru, Theodor, Grigoriu, Ludovic Feldman, Zeno Vancea, Doru Popovici, Marțian Negrea,, Walter Mihai Klepper, Aurel Popa, Ștefan Niculescu, Pascal Bentoiu, etc.,, we have a consistent panoramic image of the much colorful Romanian, creation. Tthis genre goes through interesting routes, from Doru, Popovici's neoclassicism to Ștefan Niculescu's so personal heterophonic, syntaxes or from Anatol Vieru's modern modalism to Ludovic Feldman's, late dodecaphonism., The author is not satisfied with the stylistic frame and the formal, analysis of concert works, but it presents pretty detailed the rest of the, the composers' works included in the volume. It is a merit since the, reader has available in a concentrated form a real analytical dictionary of, the new Romanian music. Another aspect which can be considered, positive is the non-discriminatory inclusion of some less known creators, and promote next to some great names of the contemporary Romanian, composers. Also, works of different stylistical-formal orientation are, accepted without any subjective comment related to this issue from the, author. It is an attitude proper to an approach of research and quasi-, exhaustive presentation and which is maintained in the limits of a, historical analysis of the field. Author
