THE ”FOLK” LITURGY OF SABIN DRĂGOI

The Folk Liturgy for the male choir is a less known liturgy of Sabin Drăgoi being inspired by the ancient church songs from Banat noted by Nicolae Stefan. This Liturgy is thus called for the simple reason that it was intended to be an accessible work, and having a predominantly harmonious character. Due to its smaller size, the popular Liturgy does not meet the conditions of a work intended for the concert, using it strictly for religious service. Sabin Drăgoi wants to create a simple work, accessible to all in which the simplest elements of functional tonal verticality compete, represented by the simple structures of major, minor and diminished segments. This simplicity also consists in the fact that the work was designed for a relatively small size diapason, falling within the limits of a fifth-tenth interval, precisely to be sung by unprofessional choral ensembles.
