Abstract

This study starts from the definition of some terms, highlighting the complementarity of the concepts of national and universal in contemporary Romanian music, starting from the dialectical connection between the two notions - national and universal - in the historical context of European and Romanian music. In this approach, reference is made to the appearance of the personality of the great representative of the Romanian National Musical School G. Enescu, who marked a moment of theoretical substantiation of the relationship between national and universal in Romanian music. At the same time, in order to follow the evolution of these concepts over time, examples of representative works from the repertoire of universal and Romanian music are presented, in which they are present in a complementary relationship. These examples reinforce the idea that the road to the universal passes through the national, in conclusion, Romanian musical culture, through its prominent representatives, from Enescu until now, has earned its meritorious place through inventiveness and originality, in the heritage of universal musical culture.
