EXPLORATIONS - FROM SHAMANIC DRUM TO DRUM CIRCLES

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the archetypal connection between two seemingly distinct phenomena: shamanism in its traditional form its modern variant (neo-shamanism) and the phenomenon of drum circles, a community form of practicing rhythmic expression through drums which is widely spread these days. The study also reveals similarities between this phenomenon and models of improvisational music therapy.
