The sound of Eminescu

Abstract

The last great romantic in the European literature aspired to merge poetry with music. Reading or listening to Eminescu’s poetry, it is impossible not to notice its rhythm which the poet used intensively to express his emotion in a way similar to music. His mastery of vowel harmonization leads to the omnipotence of word and his romance – poems are unsettling due to the dramatic view on life and philosophical depth, musicality defining his entire creation as a result of the poet’s conscious effort.
