KINETIC AND MECHANOMORPHIC ELEMENTS IN THE VISUAL ART REGISTER. THE RHETORIC AND PARADIGM OF THE CONCEPTS "AUTOMATA" AND "MÉTAMATICS"

Abstract

Through a technical operation (under the sign of the enigma for thereceiver), the “automata” mechanism has managed to capture the public’sattention on the axis of antiquity - medieval age - modernism. As time passes,the automatic mechanisms of Pierre Jaquet-Droz have been noticed, whichreconstructs the “biological actions” through the mechanism as modusvivendi. The diversity of modern concepts with regard to the perceptibility ofart has determined the acceptance of inserting the mechanism and its partsas a work of its own in the field of visual art. One of the main themes of thissubject is Jean Tinguely’s “Métamatics” where the Swiss sculptor “instituted” aseries of Kinetic creations-inventions with the role of “making” works of art,demarche which replaced human action – critic manifestation positionedunder the sign of renewal.
