AUREL STROE AND THE CULTURAL-MUSICAL RESONANCES OF THE BALKAN SPACE

Abstract

Aurel Stroe is one of the most important Romanian composers,being also a profound thinker on the musical phenomenon in its entirety, inits cultural context. His music and his system of thought (which sustains hisentire creation) pulls his sights out of very diverse cultural and musicalspaces, from the world of Indian ladders to the western European musicaluniverse, containing metamorphoses between immeasurable sound andcultural worlds. It has not yet been investigated how Aurel Stroe belongs tothe national space and - in a broader sense - local, Balkan space. We believethat the time has come for such a synthesis that represents for anymusicologist a real challenge.
