The personality of the performer, of the teacher, or the mother?, Manuela MIHĂILESCU - I now realize that my personality is defined, in fact,, by the interplay of these facets. I could not say in what proportion I give more, attention to one or other of these aspects ... Life has taught me and is teaching me, which should be my priorities of the moment and which should be the perspective, directions of my activities. Even if they succeeded chronologically: the vocation of an, artist, then the one as mother and recently the one as teacher, now, for me, all are, equally important., V.D. - How did you begin to study the instrument?, M. M. - Piano study began in my hometown of Oraviţa with Mrs. Mora, a, teacher at the Music School, and with beautiful working moments on the Stelzhammer, piano in my grandparents’ room. I did, and still, enjoy studying the piano; it is a search, that never ends. Our work with the instrument is a spiritual work; those who think that, we just tap our fingers are mistaken... By studying the instrument, but also by the, concern with musical science itself, one has access to higher levels of understanding. By, studying one tries to discover the deeper message of music, hidden in the many and, wonderful forms of expression of this art. And then, how nice it is to be able to gift it, to people who come to listen..., V. D. - Have you had mentors in your career? Who are they?, M. M. - I would rather say that I had spiritual models that have guided me and, still do. First Dinu Lipatti, who fascinated me since adolescence: as pianist, as a, musician, but also as a man - after I read the testimonies of those who knew him. That, is why we named our eldest boy Dinu. He is now studying at Haute Ecole de Musique, in Geneva - the conservatoire where the pianist Dinu Lipatti taught... And he feels, overwhelmed by the Master’s beneficial imprint when studying on the instrument, where he taught piano lessons., Yes, I can say that I was guided by the pure spirit of Dinu Lipatti!
