RICHARD STRAUSS’ KRÄMERSPIEGEL SONG CYCLE, A LIVING TESTAMENT TO THE COMPOSER’S STRUGGLE WITH THE PUBLISHING WORLD

Abstract

In Richard Strauss’ lied creation, the comic is found in only two works: Für fünfzehn Pfenning and Krämerspiegel. The second, which is distinguished by its uniqueness, is a cycle of twelve lieder composed on texts by Alfred Kerr, and is a testament to the author’s struggle with the publishing industry, to strengthen the position of the musician in society and to defend the rights of composers.
