THE BROKEN MIRROR

Abstract

The fact that today we are able to know our history is largely due to the images and artifacts made by man, using the mind to penetrate the deepest layers of existence in a spiritual vertical path and with hand skills that have made visible these more or less perceptible layers. Art is the mirror of society, the artist being the faithful and subtle chronicler of the times in which he lives, be they democratic or totalitarian, progressive or conservative, republican or monarchist. Artistic trends merely reflect the state of civilization, the material and/or spiritual progress or regress of political regimes, the evolution or involution of a society; therefore, the artist takes the “pulse” of his time and turns it into a timeless diagram, objectified in the artwork, preserving in years events, concepts, ideas, political ideals, personalities, hailing the success or condemning the flaws of the society in which he lives.
